IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics ICM '25 in Wollongong - Australia
Dear Customers and Friends,
I am very delighted to announce my participation in the IEEE ICM’25 (International Conference on Mechatronics) in Wollongong, Australia, on behalf of Helmut-Schmidt-University. During the conference, I proudly presented the Horn-Müller-von der Wense Gear (HMW-Gear) with the title “A Novel Approach to Uninterrupted Torque Transmission.”
Furthermore, a demo of the HMW-Gear was showcased onsite. This demo comprised not only the mechanical components but also an Aurix TC499 from Infineon Technologies AG, which is responsible for measuring the angular position of the driven functional gear, actuating the switching mechanics, and sensing rotational velocities inside the gearbox. The way in which the switching process takes place depends on several factors. To address these, the Parallel Processing Unit (PPU) inside the Aurix TC499 will be utilized to accelerate a model-based switching approach, which is set to be integrated next.
To streamline the development process, SmartCode from TASKING was used. This development environment ensures a seamless coding experience and also provides the groundwork for ISO 26262-based applications. Additionally, WinIDEA debug software, along with the iC7mini BlueBox, serves as a next-generation platform for flashing, debugging, and testing—also from TASKING—covering a wide range of embedded microcontroller architectures. The HMW-Gear features an iC7mini BlueBox interface, enabling real-time debugging throughout the project.
Bringing such a prototype to a conference in Australia required a great deal of organization and, of course, many helping hands. With that, I would like to express my deep appreciation to my colleagues from Infineon Technologies AG for providing the hardware and offering rapid programming support, my colleagues from TASKING GmbH for providing the entire development environment, including SmartCode, WinIDEA, and the iC7mini BlueBox, and my colleagues from DYNA Instruments for assisting with the packaging to prevent the HMW-Gear from being damaged during the journey.
Additionally, TBench.Solutions UG contributed significantly to the development. We provided extensive expertise—not only in programming but also in integrating a sophisticated microcontroller into this application. Therefore, we extend our gratitude to all participants, partners, as well as the manufacturing and construction services at Helmut-Schmidt University.
A special thanks to customs authorities in Germany, China, and Australia for allowing this innovation to pass through multiple borders without any intervention.
Last but not least, many thanks to the University of Wollongong for the excellent organization and for assisting me with the equipment needed to run the HMW-Gear onsite.
Best regards,
The TBench Team
IEEE International Conference on Control and Robotics ICCR '24 in Yokohama, Japan
Dear Customers and Friends,
I am delighted to announce my participation in the IEEE International Conference on Control and Robotics (ICCR 2024) in Yokohama, Japan, on behalf of Helmut-Schmidt-University. The presentation, entitled “The Swarm Flight Unit”, highlighted a novel sensor system called SFU, which enables the coordinated flight of UAV swarms for civil applications, such as Search & Rescue scenarios. I am thrilled to share that the presentation was awarded Best in Category for Machine Vision and Image Processing.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all participants, especially my friends from Infineon Technologies AG, Synopsys Inc., and TASKING. Building on this groundwork, we plan to delve deeper into machine learning (ML) and large language model (LLM) technologies to significantly enhance timing behavior for pattern recognition and 3D-position estimation. This will be achieved by leveraging dedicated hardware, such as the AURIX™ TC4XX, along with the SmartCode toolchain from Tasking GmbH, which supports the TriCore TCv1.8. Additionally, we will utilize the Parallel Processing Unit (PPU) integration from Synopsys Inc., the latest GTM IP, and the Cybersecurity Real-Time Module (CSRM).
Best regards,
